For example, in 2014 we stayed at The Lakes Holiday Park.
I headed out the park, along 2 back streets to Hugh St, which turned into Gulliver St before changing into O'Reilly St which leads to the Ross River. At the Ross River there is a concrete/bitumen shared path on both sides, similar to the Yarra river paths. I turn left and followed the path past some quiet back streets into the CBD, then head back via the V8 race track. There usually was no security, so I ride a couple of 100 meters along the track, before retracing my route back to Ross River, cross over to the west side and ride to Mocha Mecca coffee shop. From there I cross over to the east side and ride back to our camp.
The weather is usually sunny around 18 to 25 degrees with a light to moderate South East breeze.
My ride is just over 50kms.

Nice big trees along the path.

Stopped at Townsville Golf Club, which the path runs beside.

The Sugar shaker - The Holiday Inn.

8:05am - peak hour traffic in Townsville.
I can live with that.

Passing Townsville Rail station.
I did see a couple of trains.

I had the V8 racetrack to myself for a couple of minutes.
No one caught me.

Castle Hill in the distance.

The Pits.

Part of the vegetation surrounding the shared path.

I didn't see any "Snapping Lizards", but then again,
I didn't look real hard.

One of the four or five weirs that regulate the flow
of the river that I pass.

Another magic view from the path.

Another magic view from the path.

Part of the vegetation surrounding the shared path.

My coffee stop - Mocha Mecca in Douglas.

My coffee with a view.

The bridge that I cross over after my coffee.

The Riverway lagoon - is a brilliant swimming pool with no fences - very weird.

Mount Stuart is never far away when riding this route.

Another part of the path, showing different vegetation.

Some of the wildlife.

George even flew in to say "Hi".

Ian fronted with his 2 mates.

Heading back to camp down Hugh St. I can live with this volume of traffic.

Entering our Park.

There's our site in the middle with a beautiful backdrop of Mt Stuart.

My trusty treadley at Townsville Marina on my way to Jupiter's casino.

The Maggy Island ferry approaching Townsville wharf.

The Strand is very beautiful.

The view from Juliette's Gelateria, where it is possible to buy ice cream, NOT that I have tried it.
Like hell, 4 flavours for $6.90 and it is bloody awesome.
