Day 33 - Wednesday 11th May 2016.

Boulia - Day 1 waiting, waiting.

We slept like logs and woke after 7am. I ended up with 2 blankets on, while Marg had 1 blanket. We had brekky while watching Kochie.
We decided that if the Birdsville Rd is open, we will go tomorrow (Thursday). Mid morning we drove into the Boulia CBD and visited the info center. 1st question "is the Birdsville Rd open?" No. We are now staying in Boulia for tonight and the general concensus is that the road wont be open until Saturday. To fill in the day, we bought a combo ticket $20 each which allows us to visit the Min Min encounter, The Stonehouse museum and the Fossil museum. We will start visiting the museums tomorrow So after leaving the Info Center, we drove over the road to the Min Min Store. This shop sells food, hardware and just about anything you need. It also has a coffee shop, SO Marg and I had a coffee and read the melb Sun on our iPads. As we sat down, there was a guy hanging pictues and photos, SO naturally, we started talking to him (it just happened to be Bob the owner who has been living in Boulia for the past 43 years). Bob can certainly talk, after at least 15 minutes, he left us and an elder woman came into the coffee shop. I spoke to her briefly and she has been a resident of Boulia for 63 years. After coffee, we drove to the water tower as it has a beautiful mural painted on it plus the other water tank. Next door was the wind mill, so a few photos later, we left and drove back to camp.

We had lunch and I checked on the Burke River, it is still rising. The Burke river flows into the Georgina which flows into the Cooper which fills Lake Eyre. I would like the river to stop flowing, as I hope that will give us a chance to drive to Birdsville. We are still confident of reaching Birdsville.
Later in the arvo, I drove back to the Min Min store and did some food shopping. The rest of the arvo was spent sitting outside, fending off the bush flies and reading. It was quite pleasant except for the flies.

Dinner was hotdogs. They were YUMMA.

We are staying at Boulia until the weekend, we still hope to get to Birdsville.

Day 34 - Thursday 12th May 2016.

Boulia - Day 2 Min Min Encounter and Stonehouse.

As the nights are getting cooler, we are sleeping better and woke after 7am. I ended up with 2 blankets on, while Marg had 1 blanket. We had brekky while watching Kochie.
We found out that the Birdsville Rd is RESTRICTED OPEN to 4WD High Clearance vehicles and to "Drive with caution and water over the road at Cacoory Ruins and very boggy". SO we decided to wait until tomorrow, with the sun and wind today, the 'very boggy' bits maybe firmer. I hope.

To fill in today, we visited the
Boulia Heritage Complex (Stonehouse & Marine Reptile Fossils) and
Watched the Min Min encounter.
The Stonehouse Cottage was built between 1885 to 1888 for James Jones and his wife Marg. The Marine Reptile Fossil display was created and built by local resident "Dinosaur" Dick Suter. The murals were done by Dick's sister Rona. The rest of the museum had a Hospital display, Indigenous and Historical room, a Telecommunications Room (similar to what we have in our fiver). We spent about 2 hours checking it out, it was quite good.

Next attraction was the Min Min encounter, this consisted of a (The Min Min Encounter show is a unique theatrical experience incorporating animatronics, fibre optics and loads of other high tech wizardry. The encounter is a tribute to the long honoured art of the bush yarn, all based around the famed Min Min Light phenomenon. The 45 minute show introduces you to the stories of the Min Min Light as told by various characters that claim to have seen the mysterious light). It was brilliant, a must see.

After the Encounter, we walked over the road to the Camels Coffee shop (we went there yesterday) to have a coffee and read the paper on our iPads. As we walked in, we met Val who is part owner with Bob. I put our bag of iPads on 'our table' while Marg was checking out the food. We ordered coffee with scones with jam and cream. Val told me that their coffee shop opened last week, SO when we finished I gave them my opinion of their coffee shop. It was all positive and Val thanked me.

Back at camp for lunch, just tomato sangas again, we cleaned out the Mighty Navara for tomorrow's trip to Birdsville. Hopefully

We cleaned out the back seat area for our bits and pieces and part of the tray for our folding chairs.

Dinner was the rest of the hotdogs. They were YUMMA.

We hope to get to Birdsville tomorrow.
