Day 102 - Dicky Beach to Southport - 169kms.

It was another mild night, we were awake at 6:30am and up and into it, we left about 8:10am and emptied 'the shitter' at the other dump point in camp. Finally left the park at 8:20am and headed out of Caloundra to the Bruce Highway, sitting between 90 and 105kph, we headed south. Being Saturday, the traffic was light and flowing, we arrived at Broadwater Tourist park at 10:30am, without any hassles. We checked in and went to our 'regular' site 88. The first thing we noticed was that grass had been planted on our site, last year the annex area was completely devoid of any grass, now it is lush, thick instant grass, which is excellent. Only one disappointment, last year we bought 2 green tarps to cover our bald annex area, so in Dicky Beach we bought 2 green tarps, does anyone want 2 brand new, unused green tarps? Anyway, enough of this crap about the tarps, it took me approx 3 hours to do a full setup, that included emptying the tray of the mighty Navara of 18 bags of rocks, yes my back is now buggered.

Just as I sat down after completing the setup, we were pleasantly surprised to see Luke, Jodi and Mont arrive, so we walked, all of 20 meters, to the beach and we watched Mont build sandcastles, 'Poppy' aka me wasn't fit to bend, so next time Mont, I will build some with you. As you may realise, after the kids left, I just crawled into a corner and died.

Dinner was McCains pizza slices and I was asleep by 8pm and slept until 6am, I was rooted as in very tired, that's another technical term.

Tomorrow is our eldest son's (Jason) birthday, he is 32.

Our route from Dicky Beach to Southport - 169kms.

Day 103 - Jay's 32nd Birthday.

Happy 32nd Birthday, Jay, we love you heaps!

It was another cool night, we were awake at 6:30am and laid in bed and watched 'Weekend Sunrise', we buggered about at camp all morning, as we were meeting at the Pacific Pines Tavern to celibrate Jay's birthday at midday. I walked down to the beach and sat with Brian, a neighbour and we watched the world go by us in boats. Finally, we got ourselves organised and drove the 10kms plus to the Tavern for lunch, shock horror, we were first there, closely followed by Luke and family, then Jay and Bec and Bec's Mum and sister. Thee boys had chicken parma and a few beers, while the women had various meals, Marg had beef lazagne, which I finished and all our meals were very YUMMA. It was great meeting Bec's mum and sister, as we left we arranged a time to visit Bec's mum for a coffee and chat.
After lunch, we drove to Luke's home to copy some TV shows onto our Hard Drive then onto Jay's home to copy more TV shows onto the HD. Finally, we arrived back at camp about 4:30pm and are tired.

Dinner will be soup, something very easy, followed a quiet night watching TV.

Tomorrow, we start to relax in earnest and do bugger all, so I will go riding and we will play the rest by ear.

Welcome to Southport. Our 1st morning. How nice is it?

Day 104 - 1st Day of relaxing at Broadwater Tourist Park.

It was a cold night, I was using my sleepingbag as a blanket and was as warm as toast. As we are now not worrying about time, I awoke about 6:30am and laid in bed and listened to 92.5 Gold FM - Bridge, Rich and Spida, Marg awoke after 7am. By the time, I got myself organised it was 9:20am, I then got on my bike and headed off to Surfers Paradise along the shared paths, from Surfers I kept to the shared paths and went to the Gold Coast Seaway. At the seaway, I met and spoke to a woman who has lived at Main Beach for 40 years and rides most days. After I left the seaway, I rode down Seaworld Drive and stopped at Seaworld and watched the monorail go past me, so I took a photo. After leaving Seaworld, I rode back over the bridge at Nerang river, where they are building the rail bridge beside the existing road. Past the Osprey's nest and there was at least one osprey there, I will investigate further over the state of the ospreys. Past our camp, where I came across a flock of Georges just relaxing on the grass, so I took some more photos, then continued towards Labrador onto my turnabout at Angler's Paradise and then back to camp. A total of 36.31kms.
I showered and then Marg and I drove to South Park for lunch at Michels, followed by some shopping at Woollies, then to the Workers Club to renew our membership of $1 for life. A big disappontment is that the club no longer has BINGO.

Back at camp, Marg did her thing and then had a nanna nap, while I washed the mighty Navara, I did notice that our flat hose has developed a tiny leak, which I now have to rectify.

Dinner was ham steaks and vegies. YUMMA. Followed by a quiet night watching TV.

The weather today was absolutely magnificent.

Tomorrow will be very similar to today's activities.

Day 105 - The day we watched George and his mates.

It was a cold night, I was using my sleepingbag as a blanket and was as warm as toast. As we are now not worrying about time, I awoke about 7:00am and laid in bed and listened to 92.5 Gold FM - Bridge, Rich and Spida, Marg awoke after 7:15am. By the time, I got myself organised it was 9:00am, I changed into 'Cycleman' and headed off to Surfers Paradise along the shared paths, from Surfers I kept to the shared paths and went to the Gold Coast Seaway. At the seaway, I ate my 2 bananas and watched the tourists walk out to the end of the seawall and take photos, very similar to what I do. I then rode to the peninsula near the Doug Jennings Park then back to camp. As it was 11:30am, I did not ride to Angler's Paradise but turned into our camp.

After I showered and had lunch, we drove to Aussie Fair and walked around and checked out the shops before having coffee at Moccachinos (very similar to Gunter's Muggachinos in Rubyvale) and then did some food shopping at Woollies. On the way home we found the Southport RSL and joined as social members, ($6.50 each annually) so we could play BINGO without signing in every time we go there.

During the afternoon, we walked along the sand as the tide was out, to where George and his mates hang out, see the photos, we watched them for 30 minutes or longer.

Dinner was macaroni cheese, absolutely YUMMA. Followed by a quiet night watching TV.

The weather today was nearly magnificent, there was some high level cloud (Cirrus Fibratus).

Tomorrow is Bingo at the Southport RSL, our new Club.

Day 106 - Enjoying ourselves on the Gold Coast.

It was a milder night, so I started with 2 blankets and about 5am, threw my blankets off and replaced them with my sleepingbag and was as warm as toast. As we are now not worrying about time, I laid in bed and listened to the 7:30am news on 92.5 Gold FM with Bridge, Rich and Spida, Marg awoke around 8am. My norm for the day, is go riding in the morning and get back by 12pm and Marg does whatever she wants too. Today, while I was riding Marg walked upto our club (Southport Workers Club) to test out the pokies. They passed. I changed into 'Cycleman' and headed off to Surfers Paradise along the shared paths, where I took a photo of the weather in Surfers. From Surfers I kept to the shared paths and went to the Gold Coast Seaway. At the seaway, I met the lady I spoke too, two days ago. I haven't asked her name yet, but I will. From the Spit, I rode back over the Nerang Bridge which is being widened to take the new Light Rail, stopping at Cafe Rockpool for a coffee, with lovely views over the Broadwater towards Marina Mirage and Seaworld. As Marg wasn't home, I continued on my way to my normal turnaround point at Angler's Paradise BUT as it was so pleasnat I decided to continue onto the Runaway Bay Marina. On my way back to camp, I kept turning left at every street and headed to the water, eventually arrived back at camp after 51.64kms at 12;30pm, a bit late and Marg was already there. She Lost.

After I showered and had lunch, we drove to Bunnings to buy some Borax then to Spotlight to buy small flurry balls and googly eyes for something that Marg is making. On the way back to camp, we stopped at the Southport Sharks club, and joined their club again, as their Bingo is at a more suitable time of 9:30am. The RSL starts at 11am and will stuff our whole day, whereas The Sharks will be over by lunchtime then I can go riding. Who said that I am selfish?

Current status of our club membership is:
  • Southport Workers Club - Life membership for $1 each - No Bingo
  • Southport RSL - 1 year membership for $6.50 each - Bingo daily at 11am
  • Southport Sharks - 1 year membership for $6 each - Bingo Tue, Fri and Sat at 9:30am.
At least with my birthday on 12th September, I will receive some benefits which Marg will use on the pokies, so I sorta win.
Well, Marg does.
We will do Bingo this Friday and then each Tuesday, as Tuesday suits our 'hectic' lifestyle.
The rest of the arvo was spent with Marg trying to make soft play dough without any success. I walked upto the 'rec room' where the park's free wifi is stronger than in our fiver and uploaded the latest batch of photos to my photobucket account.

Dinner was 'Gordon Blue' with vegies and was YUMMA. Followed by a quiet night watching TV.

The weather today was back to magnificent, with no cloud.

Tomorrow will be very similar to today's hectic schedule.

Day 107 - Enjoying ourselves on the Gold Coast.

Today, while I was riding Marg was skin polishing a sapphire. I changed into 'Cycleman' and headed off to Surfers Paradise along the shared paths, where I took a photo of the weather in Surfers. From Surfers I kept to the shared paths and went to the Gold Coast Seaway. At the seaway, my lady friend wasn't there, actually, I was the only person on the end of the Spit. From the Spit, I rode back over the Nerang Bridge, and rode non stop upto my turnaround point at Angler's Paradise and then back to camp.

After I showered, our neighbour at the rear of us, was having hassles with his UHF radio, so Marg being our computer/UHF guru, she solved Dennis' problem, he was very happy. After lunch, we drove to Officeworks to buy some rubber thimbles for Marg and while there, we checked out the Canon Pixma MP230, a top bed scanner and colour printer for $44.98. Unbelieveable. We didn't buy but we may later. Next stop was South Park, where we stopped at Michels for a coffee and visited an ATM, I was running low on cash, then did some shopping at Woollies.

Back at camp, we went for a walk around the caravan park, calling in at David and Di's camp BUT as usual, they were out gadding about and so, we couldn't invite them to our club for dinner. We left camp at 5pm and arrived before 5:30pm, which was when the bistro opens. Since we were here last year, there have been some changes, in particular, there is a new catering company. The old bistro is still there, but the menu is more extensive. Marg ordered garlic prawns and I ordered the mixed grill. Both meals were absolutley YUMMA. We were back at camp by 6:15pm, we usually don't take too long for dinner.

As usual, we had a quiet night watching Big Brother.

The weather today was magnificent, with no cloud BUT very windy..

Tomorrow will be Bingo at the Southport Sharks.

Today's weather photo. Max was 23.5°.

Day 108 - Bingo at one of 'our' clubs.

It was a cooler night, so I went straight to my sleepingbag and was as warm as toast. Today we did worry about time, as it is BINGO at one of 'our' clubs (The Southport Sharks), so we set the alarm for 7am and we were up and about. As we had brekky and got ourselves organised, we watched Mels last day on Sunrise. We taped the show as we always do and will watch the rest of the Mels farewell show tonight.
We left camp at 8:30am and drove the 2 kms to The Southport Sharks. We walked through the club to the bingo area which overlooks the footy ground, a great view. I bought 2 full sets of tickets for $46 and we sat with Jenni, who is a local and said that we could sit with her. She was nice and now Marg and I know her life's story. The lady calling Bingo looked familiar, I asked her at the break and she had called bingo at the Southport Workers. Marg had a good day, she won twice and pick up $50, so we broke even. My luck is still with me and I didn't win any.

After bingo, we drove to Aus Fair, as the Telstra Elite modem with 2Gb was on special at Coles for $39.50, so we bought another one, we now have 3 Telstra Elite modems. Back at camp for lunch, while Marg did more skin polishing, I went riding and nearly ran over a brown snake, thankfully, I missed it, but it scared me shitless. I only planned for a short ride, so it was out to the Spit then to Angler's Paradise and then back to camp, just an easy 28kms. The rest of the arvo as spent just buggering about at camp.

Dinner was Roothy's curried sausages which were YUMMA, followed by a quiet night watching Big Brother.

The weather today was magnificent, with no cloud BUT still windy..

Tomorrow will be very similar to today's hectic schedule.

Today's weather photo. Max was 23.5°.

Like a Duck to water.

Friendly cops on patrol.
