Days 174 to 177 - Wednesday 21st September to Saturday 24th September
Enjoying ourselves at Southport - Week 8.

Day 174 - Wednesday 21st September - A windy day in Paradise.

  • Weather: A very mild night, it was 16.9° at 2:30am and it reached 23.2° at 10:30am.
  • Wind: Southerly averaging 30kph gusting to 50kph.
It was a warm night, I only needed 1 blanket.
This is getting boring BUT every morning is absolutely beautiful, blue skies, sunny and today the haze is clearing. As it was constantly blowing at least 30kph, we rolled the awning up and packed away all the poles and guy ropes, as we won't be putting it back out before we leave on Sunday. I rode out to the seaway again, it was blowing a gale but I pushed into the breeze and just enjoyed riding with the breeze. The water was extremely choppy with hardly any surfers at the seaway, obviously the waves were no good, with the breeze, they were all chopped up with no real sets coming in.

During the afternoon, we drove over to South Park for some shopping and a coffee at Michel's. The rest of the afternoon was spent back at camp out of the wind, as it was still blowing.

We had a casserole type meal for dinner and it was YUMMA.

The forecast is still for mid 20°s for the next week, the smoky haze has cleared.

Rough day at the seaway.

Day 175 - Thursday 22nd September - Family Dinner.

  • Weather: A warm night, it was 16.0° at 3:00am and it reached 23.8° at 11:15am.
  • Wind: Southerlies with gusts to 26kph.
Another warm night, I only pulled on a blanket near dawn.
The morning was still sunny and with no breeze, so I rode out to the seaway again. On the way, I stopped off at Marina Mirage, as the catamaran "Ocean Drive 11' was moored at the fuel dock, but no one was there, so I still don't know why they are here and not back at Cairns, doing dive charters on the reef. Parked on the grass, out the front of Moscow Circus was a 2008 Shelby GT500 Mustang, very nice indeed.

We spent the afternoon, just sitting around in the sun and then the shade and then I lied on the bed with the sun streaming in through the window, it was so nice.

Mum and Dad are coming here at 6:15pm, as we are going to the Pacific Pines Tavern for a family dinner (Mum, Dad, Jay, Bec, Luke, Jodi, Marg and me) but first, we are going to Jay and Bec's house to show Mum and Dad. It should be a nice night.

Well, what a great night. I drove Mum and Dad and Marg over to Jay and Bec's home, they loved it, then we went to the Pacific Pines Tavern for dinner, there were 8 of us and it was very busy. Dinner probably took an hour to arrive but that was alright, as we all just chatted. The meals were very YUMMA.

The smoke haze has finally gone.

Day 176 - Friday 23rd September - Another beautiful day in Paradise.

  • Weather: A warm night, it was 13.9° at 6:00am and it reached 25.3° at 1:35pm.
  • Wind: Northerlies with gusts to 35kph.
Another warm night, I only pulled on a blanket near dawn.
The morning was still sunny and with no breeze, so I plan to ride out to the seaway again, while Marg plans to walk upto the pokies.

Well, we both made it back safely, Marg a bit lighter, she lost and I saw George at his incredible best. Marg, first, she walked upto our 'club' put money in the pokies, lost it and walked back. It was great exercise.
Me, I rode out to the seaway, the people traffic was light, except for the millions of young children and their parents at the rockpool and playgrounds around the Broadwater Parklands. I made it to the end of the seaway to my usual chunk of concrete, which is quite hard on the bum. After leaving the seaway, I stopped at the carpark and took a picture of the Seaworld 'Whale Watching' catamaran. I wondered why the cat would always stop for about 5 minutes before it entered the seaway, today, I was close enough to it, to understand why. The passengers are sitting outside on the decks, from leaving Seaworld to the seaway and must be inside as they go through the seaway to the open ocean, must be a maritime rule. So there you go.
Next stop was the boat launching carpark just before the end of the Seaworld Resort, this was where George amazed me. Weeks ago I was amazed by George standing on a street light, then I saw him laying on a street light. Today, he can't better this, he was balancing and laying on the horizontal round pole that the street light is connected too. He was definitely resting or could have been asleep, as his head was turned 180° and resting along his back, while balancing on the 5" diameter street pole in a decent breeze. see photo.
After being amazed by George, I rode out along the Marina Mirage jetty, hoping to see some life aboard the 'Ocean Drive 11' cat, as I wanted to know, why have they been here for the last month and not back at Cairns doing their dive chartering over the Great Barrier Reef. I wanted to know. Well, no one was about, so the mystery will remain with me forever.

Back at camp, Marg finally arrived home about 1pm after enjoying herself at the club. We drove over to Aussie Fair for a coffee at the restaurant and then spent the afternoon sitting in the shade, watching the life go on around us.

Only 2 nights left here before we head South to our home.

Beautiful calm seas today, after some rough stuff recently.

The surfers are back in force.

The Sea World whale watching cruise.

George and his brother George.

Watch me, I can perch on a street light.

That's nothing, I can sleep on a pole. Beat that. I win!!

Bolero - A beautiful yacht that never leaves its berth.

Seven Star is for sale at $6 million.

Family Day is still here.

Day 177 - Saturday 24th September - our last day on the Gold Coast.

  • Weather: A warm night, it was 17.2° at 5:30am and it reached 25.4° at 12:30pm.
  • Wind: Northerlies of 20kph with gusts to 35kph.
Another warm night, I still only used one blanket. I woke at 3:30am, as our power went off, so I got up and reset the circuit breaker, consequently, I didn't sleep well at all.
The morning was still sunny and with a strong Northerly, Luke rang about 7:30am and said that he would meet me at the seaway at 8:30am, I would ride my bike and he would ride his bike with 600cc, he passed me about 1 kilometer from the seaway. I met him there and we walked out along the seaway and watched the surfers paddle across the seaway to South Straddy Island for the better surf. I rode back to camp and guess what, Luke was already there talking to his Mum. I had to start packing up as we plan to leave about 8am tomorrow, first thing to do, was empty the shitter, strange that Luke didn't volunteer to help me.
Luke left and Dad rang, he was riding to us from down at Miami, a decent ride. He arrived and stayed for 20 minutes, then rode back to his apartment at Miami.

During the afternoon, we drove over to pick up some stuff from Jay and say our goodbyes, then over to Luke to drop stuff off and say our goodbyes. We may see Luke in November when he comes to Melbourne and may see both of them in January.

The afternoon was spent packing up and we also have a new neighbour in a large 5th Wheeler. See photo for comparison.

Tomorrow we head for Moree and their thermal pools.

Big Brother has arrived.
